About ‘Gothic Rebel – Tradition in Contrast’ by Koeien van Klaas

In this work by Klaas, an iconic image from art history is reimagined in a raw, graphic style. The recognisable composition of the peasant couple and the Gothic dwelling is reduced to bold planes and sharp contrasts, with red and black dominating. The result is an image that feels both familiar and unsettling. The reduction of detail and the use of hard contours create a tension between tradition and modern expression. The faces remain recognisable, but lose their soft nuances and become almost masks. This shifts the emphasis from individual emotion to a broader, symbolic narrative.
Klaas’s style shows influences from pop art and street art. The rough edges and fragmentary lines give the work energy and a slightly unsettling character. It seems as though the image is under pressure and could change or fall apart at any moment. This artwork plays with themes such as identity, heritage and perception. At Art Heroes we do not mass produce or keep stock, but make to order. Your artwork is made with passion by experienced craftsmen and is on average ready for shipment in 7 business days. Details on the exact delivery date will be sent after placement of the order. Depending on the shipping country the following delivery times apply:

How will the package be sent?

We work with several carriers, mainly UPS and DHL (Depending on the country where it is delivered, this may vary). Couriers can also be used for large or fragile packages.

Canvas are securely packed in plastic bubble wrap and cardboard. Wallpaper and posters are sent in sturdy tubes.

A courier collects the package from us and takes the package to a depot where it usually stays overnight. The day after it is collected and delivered to your home or office. We work with courier services that specialise in handling fragile parcels.

Not at home? Then the delivery driver will leave a note and an appointment can be made to schedule a new delivery.

Unfortunately, there remains a chance that something can happen during a shipment. In the unlikely event that your parcel has been damaged during transit, please take a picture of the entire item, the damage, the entire package and a picture of the shipping label. Send these photos to us by email and we will solve the problem without delay.
