Wismar is the largest town in north-west Mecklenburg. Wismar's old town centre, which was built between the 13th and 16th centuries, has hardly changed. Visitors experience medieval architecture, brick Gothic and modern, friendly people. The three town churches of St Nikolai, St Georgen and the church tower of St Marien are evidence of the brick Gothic style. The latter is an imposing 82 metres tall and still serves today as a landmark visible from afar for boats and ships going to sea. In the photograph, the viewer can see the town church of St Georgen on the left and the church tower of St Marien on the right. These are located in the so-called Gothic quarter of the Hanseatic city of Wismar.
