A beautiful kingfisher with fish on a nice branch at the water's edge. Sitting in a shelter tent about 2.5 metres away, I took this photo of a juvenile male. Undisturbed, he arrived and sat on the branch for some time looking at possible fish in the water. The beautiful blue colours in the feathers on his back and the orange of his breast feathers are fully shown off by the beautiful morning light. The moss on the branch and the reflective colour in the water add something to the whole composition and atmosphere in this photo.
This beautiful male kingfisher was very skillful at surfacing fish. Since the little fish is in his beak with its head forward and he also flew away with it like this, the fish was apparently destined for a female kingfisher or a large juvenile/youngster in the nest.
Photographing these beautiful, small and colourful birds is enjoyment with a capital G. Their behaviour among themselves, the diving to catch a fish and the approaching or flying away are a joy to behold. A beautiful picture that will get all the attention on every wall and that you will enjoy every day.
This picture was taken with a Nikon Z8 camera with Nikkor 70-200 F2.8 FL lens and Nikkor 1.4 extender.
