About ‘Gosper-13 birds’ by Tis Veugen

This tessellation is based on the Gosper 13 space-filling curve, discovered by Fukuda et al., with deformed rhombus tiles filled with a bird. The generated segments of the curve indicate whether a rhombus must be rendered to its left (blue bird) or to its right (yellow bird). Each rhombus consists of two equilateral triangles. One triangle has its base on a curve segment, and one of its two remaining edges is the base for the other triangle. However, it is not obvious (for me) which of the two edges. I used some heuristical rules, as well as a search algorithm to determine the correct edges. After three iterations the tessellation has 13 * 13 * 13 = 2197 tiles. The curve starts at the top center, and ends at the right center. You can follow the curve on the dark edges of the birds.
As far as I know, this is the first tessellation of a space-filling curve that is tiled with a rhombus shape.
The image is 12000 x 12000 pixels, and can therefore be printed large.

Since my retirement in 2019 I have started creating digital art with a mathematical slant. The works of M.C. Escher are a source of inspiration. Thanks to programs I developed myself on the computer, I am able to add extra dimensions to Escher's works in the form of structures with photographic material.

What are the delivery times?

At Art Heroes we do not mass produce or keep stock, but make to order. Your artwork is made with passion by experienced craftsmen and is on average ready for shipment in 7 business days. Details on the exact delivery date will be sent after placement of the order. Depending on the shipping country the following delivery times apply:

Is your order a gift for someone? We can create you a gift voucher that displays the artwork(s) you ordered, so you have something to give while the artwork is being printed. Just send us an e-mail and we’ll take care of it.

How will the package be sent?

We work with several carriers, mainly UPS and DHL (Depending on the country where it is delivered, this may vary). Couriers can also be used for large or fragile packages.

Canvas are securely packed in plastic bubble wrap and cardboard. Wallpaper and posters are sent in sturdy tubes.

A courier collects the package from us and takes the package to a depot where it usually stays overnight. The day after it is collected and delivered to your home or office. We work with courier services that specialise in handling fragile parcels.

Not at home? Then the delivery driver will leave a note and an appointment can be made to schedule a new delivery.

Unfortunately, there remains a chance that something can happen during a shipment. In the unlikely event that your parcel has been damaged during transit, please take a picture of the entire item, the damage, the entire package and a picture of the shipping label. Send these photos to us by email and we will solve the problem without delay.
