About a 200 km drive from Yangon, you will find the extraordinary Golden Rock Pagoda.
The Golden Rock is a seven meter high rock that sits on the edge of the top of a mountain. It is one of the most important Buddhist pilgrimage sites in Myanmar. Tens of thousands of pilgrims visit this holy place every year. The huge rock is covered in gold leaf and, according to legend, remains balanced by a hair of Buddha, who was brought here by a hermit as a gift for the king. Atop the large rock is a magnificent, more than five-meter-high golden pagoda.
