This photo was taken during the golden hour on a cloudy evening. A long shutter speed allows you to see the movement of the clouds and the water has a smooth surface.
The coastal village of Ribeira da Janela, on the north-western side of Madeira, is home to one of the island's most iconic rock formations: Ilheus da Ribeira da Janela, consisting of Ilheus da Rib, Ilheus da Janela and its little brother Ilheuzinho. The rocks were formed by lava and stand a few metres from rocky shores where you can therefore easily admire them from the pebble beach or the higher viewpoint.
My hostel was only a 15-minute drive away from this, so I drove here several times with different weather conditions each time which produced unique scenes time after time. I found several beautiful angles there and played a bit with slower and faster shutter speeds which resulted in the water flowing like a soft veil over the boulders on the beach one time and at faster shutter speeds you can observe the splashing water on the rocks.
Be sure to take a look at my Madeira album to admire the other photos I took here.
