The goldcrest is Europe's smallest bird. From beak to tail tip, it measures just 9 cm, and they often weigh no more than 5 grams! It is a songbird mostly found in coniferous forests with larches and spruces. Even though there are large numbers of goldcrests in our country, they are not often seen during the breeding season. This is because they mainly live in the tops of coniferous trees. Their presence is usually betrayed by their high-pitched song or calls: "zrie-zrie-zrie". Unfortunately, the high-pitched tones make them less audible for older people whose hearing has deteriorated somewhat. They live in groups and often migrate with tits. Goldcrests can be extremely tame and especially during migration time, when thousands of them descend on our country, they are so busy foraging that you can almost touch them.
