About ‘Girl with a Pearl Earring and Waves’ by Art Fiorala

For this piece, I have combined *Girl with a Pearl Earring* with a Japanese atmosphere and wave forms. You see a young woman with a serene expression, a blue headscarf, a large pearl and a kimono covered in flowers and patterns. Behind her, the waves surge powerfully into the foreground. This creates a sense of tension in the image, whilst the portrait itself remains very calm.

I found it interesting to bring these two worlds together. On the one hand, the quiet, almost timeless quality of the girl, and on the other, the movement and power of the Japanese waves. Combining these creates an image that feels both classical and decorative.

The longer you look, the more details you notice. Not only in the waves, but also in the fabric, the flowers and the colour distribution. The blue, cream, red and gold in particular combine to create a rich look without becoming overwhelming.

Zooming in clearly reveals that a crystallographic technique has been used in the fine detailing, particularly in the structure, repetition and composition of small forms.

I think this piece would fit well in an interior where you want something special on the wall. It offers tranquillity, colour and detail, and attracts attention without being garish.
