About "German Racing, 917 Hippie Car No.2"

by Theodor Decker

About the artwork

Print from a series of legendary German racing cars.
The Porsche 917 is a sports racing car prototype developed by the German manufacturer Porsche to take advantage of the regulations for building 5-litre sports cars. Powered by a twelve-cylinder boxer engine of the type 912, which was gradually enlarged from 4.5 to 5.0 litres, the 917 was introduced in 1969 and initially proved unwieldy on the race track. However, continuous further development improved the handling, and in 1970 and 1971 it dominated sports car racing. In 1970, it brought Porsche its first overall victory at the 24 Hours of Le Mans, a feat it was to repeat in 1971.
