This atmospheric work shows a traditional Japanese farmhouse in the unique gasshō-zukuri (praying hands) style, now situated in the Hida Minzoku Mura Folk Village (Hida no Sato) near Takayama. This open-air museum preserves the historic architecture of the mountainous Hida region.
The house is famous for its extremely steep, thick thatched roof, designed to withstand heavy snowfall. The scene was captured during autumn, creating a rich display of colours. A large tree in the foreground dominates the image with its vibrant orange and red leaves, which contrast beautifully with the dark, weathered wood of the house.
The grey, overcast sky enhances the rich pigments of the leaves, while a rustic path leads past the structure. This piece exudes a timeless, rural charm and is perfect for the lover of Japanese architecture and the history of the Takayama region.
