Frida had a difficult life. Despite or perhaps because of all the setbacks, she became an increasingly strong woman. I tried to reflect this in this portrait. The basis is a photo of a mannequin. It has become a very colorful work of art, which I felt suited to her life. The crow symbolizes for me her early death, but a crow is also very intelligent and resourceful just like Frida.
I've been photographing since the beginning of this century. I am a real autodidact, although I have taken courses and mentorships. I don't try to make the 'standard' picture and am often busy for weeks before the result is as I had in mind.
