She's the last Hellenistic ruler of Egypt. She is the best known of the various Egyptian monarchs of the same name. She entered into an affair with Julius Caesar, who strengthened her grip on the throne.
The story of Cleopatra has fascinated several writers and artists throughout the centuries. This attraction was largely due to her legend of her beauty and as a great seductress capable of capturing the two most powerful men of her time (Caesar and Antony).
The woman's head is twisted to the right shoulder. A snake is swinging to the chest.

Francis Augustus Lathrop (22 June 1849-18 October 1909) was an American artist. He studied at the Royal Academy of Dresden, Germany.
