This artwork shows the surroundings of Fort Beekenburg on Curaçao, a historic site with a rich history. Built in 1703, Fort Beekenburg served to defend the Spanish Water, at the time one of the few accessible places to go ashore from the sea. The fort proved its worth by withstanding English attacks and pirates on several occasions.
My inspiration for this work was to capture the tranquillity of the surroundings, in contrast to the violent events that took place here in the past. This artwork would look great in a quiet interior, where it can create a serene atmosphere.
