Alexisbad im Harz is a district of the town of Harzgerode with 42 inhabitants. It serves in particular as an excursion and holiday resort. The place is particularly well known for its location in the picturesque Selketal and as a station of the Selketalbahn, which belongs to the Harzer Schmalspurbahn. There is also a former bathhouse from the 19th century that was operated by the GDR as a recreation home for employees of the German Reichsbahn and has stood empty for years - a classic lost place. In 1810, Duke Alexis von Anhalt founded the Alexisbad spa. Here, those seeking relaxation were offered steel, mud, brine, spruce needle, electric light and carbonic acid baths as well as a drinking spring.
