A forest path in the snow. The blue sky is bright behind the trees. This picture was taken with a specially adapted camera. This camera doesn't register ordinary light, but only light in the infrared spectrum. This makes every photo a surprise, because you can't see directly what the camera is detecting. Filters allow you to choose which wavelength of infrared light to let through. By switching the red and blue channel later in the post processing the photo is converted into a so-called "false colour" photo. It gives a certain atmosphere to a photo.
In the Overasseltse en Hatertse Vennen every season has its own colour and smell. In autumn the red glow of plants and foliage dominates. In summer the plumes of cottongrass and peat fluff sway in the wind. The smell of pine tickles the nose. In winter the landscape reveals its vastness. But the sloping river dunes, dark fens and heather are beautiful in every season. For people from Nijmegen this is the closest nature reserve and they love to use it.
