I have been to Corsica several times. I am drawn to the staggering beauty and diversity of this island. Mountains, rivers, valleys, stunning coastline - it has it all. The is an image of a forest that follows the river up towards the mountains in the Gorge de Restonica, situated to the north of the island. It was a hot day and I was struck by the sound of the wind as it blew threw the pine trees, accompanied by that lovely warm pine smell. The forest was dense but even now and then small pocket of light hit the floor and the narrow track that leads you through.
There is a texture added and techniques are used to give the photograph a painterly feel. The colours have been reduced slightly, adding a sense of age. Using my technique I am able to play with light and contrast, softening certain areas and strengthening others, which enables me to draw the viewers eye to a specific part of the image, very much like a painter would do. I aim to produce images that evoke a strong sense of nostalgia, and my subjects are almost always trees
