Moody still life of a vase of flowers that have had their best day. The picture is part of a series of 20 that will be made available on this site during 2023.
The inspiration for this work comes from an incident in my own life. The moment I became seriously ill.
It was just before I wanted to enter my fifth year as a photographer (2023). It was as if a very thick line could be drawn through it immediately. I then took the time to think it through first.
After a couple of months, when the treatment was getting up to speed and the results were also positive, I decided to draw a line under it rather than a line through it: if it really is the case that I have reached the final phase of my life, I also know that I have been looking for 50 years. Looking at what I myself like and what I myself have come to like. Moreover, I no longer work on commission. I am not accountable to anyone. So I am free to make whatever I want.
That also means that in the final stage, I can make my best work, or go out and find my best work. And that's what I decide to do.
Moreover, I decide to start promoting my best works separately, ia exhibitions and sales events. In doing so, an important part of the earnings go to the Institute for Cancer Research of the Antoni van Leeuwenhoek
