I took this photo of a tulip field in the gardens of Keukenhof on a bright day in early May 2023. It was one of the few sunny days this spring and what a joy it was to see the flowers in all colours of the rainbow. The Keukenhof is a world-famous flower garden in Lisse, the Netherlands. Each year, more than 7 million flower bulbs are planted, including tulips, daffodils, hyacinths, crocuses and more, to create a magnificent show of colour. The garden covers an area of 32 hectares and includes not only flowers, but also ponds, fountains, sculptures and pavilions. There are also several themed gardens, such as a Japanese garden, a romantic garden and a flower show. The history of the Keukenhof dates back to the 15th century, when the land was used to grow herbs for the kitchen of the nearby castle kitchen of Jacoba of Bavaria. In the 19th century, the land was transformed into a landscape garden and later in the 20th century, it was converted into a flower garden that attracts thousands of tourists from all over the world every year. It is difficult to capture the beauty of the Keukenhof, because you soon feel you are not doing justice to the splendour of colours and stunning designs of the flowerbeds. Still, I am very happy with this rendering. It is an explosion of colour and besides the colours, I really like the shape of these double peony tulips.
This picture brightens up any room.
