This is the flower of the Bodhi tree, a sacred tree in the teachings of Buddhism. It was under this Bodhi tree that Siddhartha Gautama the spiritual teacher attained enlightenment, he later became known as Buddha. You will find a specimen of this tree in every Buddhist temple. The Bodhi tree is a large sacred fig tree, the Ficus Religiosa. The original tree is no longer there but a seedling of the 2nd generation is the oldest specimen still in existence and is located in Sri Lanka.
This tree the Sri Maha Bodhi tree is located in Anuradhapura. We found these flowers in a Buddhist temple complex in Orissa, India.
