The Cathedral di Santa Maria del Fiore, or Duomo Cathedral in Florence Italy is truly an amazingly beautiful imposing structure. What a huge job it must have been for that time, construction was finished in 1436, given the tools people had at the time.
Perhaps a tip. We stayed near Pisa at the time and were advised to park the car at a large shopping centre on the outskirts of the city and take the tram to the centre from there.
You really do run out of eyes to see all the beauty on show. Those rich decorations etc. you don't see in our times anymore. The doors alone !
For us, visiting Florence was a real experience. To see this building and for that matter the city in real life is so much more overwhelming than in a magazine.
