High water in the old harbour of the Hanseatic city of Wismar. The historic water gate, the harbour gate of the Hanseatic city, built around 1450 at the end of the Gothic period. To the right is the harbour house with Italian restaurants and, in the background, the large town church of St. Nikolai. This was built from 1381 to 1487 as a church for sailors and fishermen. It is a particularly fine example of North German Brick Gothic architecture.
