About the artwork
A small fig tree on a knoll in southern France. I don't know how old it is, with the drought here it won't grow very fast. It stands alone in the field and bears a lot of fruit.
In the photo, the sunlight plays on and between the tree's leaves. Strong, sturdy leaves whose thickness ensures that not all the water in the leaves evaporates. The pale green veins are especially easy to see from the underside of the leaf.
Between the leaves are the figs, they grow directly on the branch and are protected from too much sun by the leaves. They are still small and green. In the coming time, they will slowly grow bigger and at the end they will change colour, the green becoming a beautiful deep purple.
If I look closely, the figs seem to have similar veins to the leaves. Lines running through the fruit from the branch to the top of the fig. I wonder what they are for, would the nutrients for the fruit pass through here?
It is July and the green leaves, the figs and the sunlight together give off solar heat, the promise of a warm summer.
