Figs and a Banana on a Table

by Marieke Wouters

‘Figs with Banana at a Table’ is a colourful celebration of simplicity, abundance and everyday beauty. On an elegantly laid table, figs and a banana come together in a composition reminiscent of a relaxed afternoon at home. The soft purple hues of the figs, the warm yellow colour of the banana and the fresh accents in the background create a playful balance between tranquillity and vibrancy.

This work evokes a sense of homeliness, mindfulness and taking time. The table serves as a place of gathering, nourishment and connection. The fruits appear to have been carefully arranged, yet retain a spontaneous air. As a result, the collage feels approachable and warm, as if it preserves a memory of a simple yet cherished moment.

The collage is inspired by everyday scenes in which objects, colours and shapes come together to create an unexpected beauty. A bowl of fruit, a tablecloth, a chair in the background. It is precisely these ordinary elements that form the basis for an image that evokes a sense of recognition and wonder.

For this work, hand-torn printed paper shapes, paint, oil pastels and various textures have been combined to form a layered composition. The visible traces of the creative process lend the work character and reinforce the artisanal feel that is so characteristic of collage art.

‘Figs with Banana at a Table’ would feel at home in a warm, modern interior, a colourful country-style home or a Mediterranean-inspired living space. It appeals to lovers of contemporary art, colourful still lifes and artworks that radiate a sense of tranquillity and joie de vivre.
