In this nightshot, we see the impressive fig tree mata pau, a native tree of the Brazilian Pantanal. It has a curious life strategy: it is born on other trees and develops as an epiphyte, sending its roots to the ground. Over the years, the roots thicken and hug the trunk of the host tree, suffocating it to death. That’s why it is also known as red fig tree or gameleira. Above the tree, the arc of the Milky Way completes the scene, creating an incredible composition of the Pantanal sky.
