Theodoric the Great (Pannonia, c. 451 - Ravenna, August 30, 526) was king of the Ostrogoths. He succeeded his father Theodemir in 474 and reigned until his death. Emperor Zeno appointed him consul in 484, and thus he ruled over a part of Italy. He was also known by the name of Thierry of Bern (after his summer residence in Verona).
According to a saga, he spent the night in Oldenzaal in 1250.
