About "February ice on the Baltic Sea beach"

About the artwork

Many a February I went on a hike along the Baltic coast of Mecklenburg. I was particularly fond of the Baltic Sea beach on the island of Poel, here on the beach section "Schwarzer Busch", not far from Timmendorf on Poel. The remaining drift ice was reflected in the daylight and made this almost inhospitable place a very interesting scene for me. The cold of the day penetrated through the cycling gloves I was wearing to ensure a good pressure point when photographing the subject. The ice was sluggish and the wind pressure was very low. A few days later, the ice had melted and spring began. The cycle of the year entered its second phase.

With this photograph I wanted to create an atmosphere of calm. I think I have succeeded. I would place this photograph as a canvas with a black shadow gap border, perhaps in the pleasant size of 120 x 80 in my living room above the fireplace. In the winter months, this creates a good counterpart between the cosy warmth of the fireplace and this pictorial icy moment.
