Feast of rice and fish by Vlindertuin-Art

In Japan, sushi is not just a meal, but a cultural experience. Originally developed as a way to preserve fish, it has grown into a refined culinary tradition that combines taste, presentation and seasonality. Sushi is known for its balance: between rice and fish, between simplicity and colour, between tradition and innovation.

This illustration shows a richly laid table full of Japanese dishes. In the centre are two bowls: one with colourful nigiri and maki with salmon, tuna, avocado and fish roe, the other with slices of fresh salmon, rice balls and pink sweets. Surrounding them are bowls of rice, sauce, miso soup and tea. Chopsticks and a small bowl of soy sauce are ready and waiting. The atmosphere of the work is inviting and festive. The illustration style is graphic, with hand-drawn lines and digital colouring.

The colour palette consists of fresh green, salmon pink, orange, white, black and soft pastel shades. The combination of bright accents and soothing wood texture on the table creates a lively but balanced image. It radiates appetite and conviviality.
