About "Fairy tale waterfall"

by Christa Krus

About the artwork

The Schiessentümpel waterfall is a small and picturesque waterfall in the river Black Ernz river in Luxembourg. The three-part waterfall of a fairytale beauty is located in the heart of the Luxembourg region called Little Switzerland. The water falls in three narrow streams over the slippery green rocks that are so worn out that it looks like a giant hand, through which the water glides between the fingers. The waterfall seems to come from a book by J.R.R. Tolkien, especially because of the addition of the lush mossy and overgrown stone bridge that was built over the river. The wooden railing of the bridge, whith its ramshackle looks seems to have been made by elves. The Schiessentümpel waterfall may be a symbol of Little Switzerland, but it could easliy be a favourite spot for the Hobbits in the Shire, Central Earth from Tolkien's stories.

The waterfall is also a backdrop for scenes in the historic thriller film Colonia (2015), starring British Emma Watson and German Daniël Brühl.
