The photo was taken from the beach towards the sea and the horizon. The sea is quite wild, with whitecaps rolling onto the dark sandy beach.
The sky is very dark gray and it looks like it's going to rain heavily (which it did). Through those very dark clouds, a small edge of light from the setting sun still plays here and there, making the photo very exciting. The waves are illuminated by it and also in the light we see some lighting.
On the far right of the photo is a pole in the sea with a red head.
The photo was taken on the North Sea side of the island of Texel, one of the Wadden Islands in the north of the Netherlands, during a vacation.
I got to the car just in time. :-)
