Evening view of the East Gate by Mirjam Akkerman- de Bruijn

The Oostpoort in Delft is the only original city gate remaining in this city, making it a national monument. In the evening, the city gate is illuminated with lamps, so I thought this could make for a beautiful image. For an assignment from my photography course I was taking, I also had to photograph a cityscape in the evening, this really seemed like the perfect place and subject for this. For this, I first found a nice vantage point, and then waited for the blue hour and for the evening to continue falling. The photo was taken with a long shutter speed so that the water is very smooth, and the clouds slide past the towers of the city gate. To achieve this, I photographed from a tripod. The lights from the street and houses along the quay on the right and the reflection of the lights in the water make nice colourful elements in the photo. The orange glow against the blue evening sky gives you a very pleasant contrast of colours. In the background, you can see the New Church with the lit-up church bell. The beautifully illuminated Oostpoort is the beautiful showpiece of the photo with the Oostpoortbrug also well in view. A very familiar location for any Delft resident, this beautiful picture of the Oostpoort in the home or in a business with Delft roots would be a piece to show off on the wall.
