The light above the Zegerplas near Alphen aan den Rijn is always different. For this picture I waited until the so-called blue hour; that is the time from half an hour after sunset until an hour and a half afterwards. With that late light you use a long shutter speed because of the scarce light; but that long shutter speed also provides nice smooth water, and a windy sky. The yellow light of the apartments and the streetlights combines nicely with the blue.
Landscapes and townscapes are my favourite subjects. I search for beauty in the image; that can come from any of the compositional elements such as lines, shapes, rhythms, light/dark, colour combinations. For me a photograph is successful, when I can hang it on the wall.. Read more…
