Edam is a picturesque town in the province of North Holland in the Netherlands, known worldwide for its cheese of the same name.

Edam has a rich history dating back to the 12th century when it was granted city rights. It was a bustling port town during the Golden Age, flourishing through trade and commerce. The town's historic centre is well preserved and features charming canals, gabled houses and cobbled streets.

Edam cheese is perhaps the city's best-known export product. Traditionally, cheese was produced and traded at the city's cheese market, which was established in the 16th century. Although the cheese market is no longer operational, visitors can still learn more about Edam cheese production at the local cheese museum.

Edam is known for its well-preserved historical architecture. The town is home to numerous buildings from the 17th and 18th centuries, including the leaning Beiaardtoren, which dates back to 1561 and offers panoramic views of the town and surrounding countryside. Other notable sights include the Speeltoren and the Grote Kerk from the 15th century.
