Eugène Boudin (Honfleur, Normandy, France 12 July 1824 - Deauville, 8 August 1898) was a French painter, draughtsman and etcher. He is mainly known for his seascapes and is considered a forerunner of Impressionism.
He was one of the first French landscape painters to work in the open air. His marines form a direct link between the naturalism of the early and impressionism of the late 19th century. Boudin was the one who introduced Claude Monet to this method of outdoor painting.
