Essen-Margarethenhöhe, usually called Margarethenhöhe, is a working-class area in the German city of Essen.
Due to its design, the district is the first German garden city. Margarethenhöhe was named after the founder Margarethe Kruppe. The area was specially built by the Krupp company for its workers in the style of a medieval town.
Even now, the houses, which are almost all different, exert a strong attraction. Vaulted facades with ivy and pergolas, bay windows, wooden shutters and natural stone baseboards are characteristic details in Margarethenhöhe. Especially in the spring when the Wisteria blooms, the white houses with the blue rain look very romantic.
