Desiderius Erasmus (Rotterdam, 28 October 1466, 1467 or 1469 - Basel, 12 July 1536) was a Dutch-born priest, Augustinian canon, theologian, biblical scholar, philosopher, writer and humanist. Humanist In 1502, Erasmus was offered a post at the University of Leuven at the intercession of the theologian Adriaan Boeyens, later Pope Adrian VI, but he did not accept it. He devoted himself to translations from Greek. Quinten Massijs (I), originally Quinten Metsys. Quinten also spelled Kwinten or Quentin, Massijs as Matsijs, Matsys, Massys, Metsijs, Metsys, Messijs or Messys (Leuven, c. 1466 - Antwerp, 1530) was a southern Dutch painter, considered the last important representative of the Flemish Primitives. He was also one of the founders of the Antwerp School. Eugene Siberdt (Antwerp, 21 April 1851 - there, 6 January 1931) was a Belgian painter. He trained at the Antwerp Academy of Fine Arts under the direction of Nicaise de Keyser, painting history pieces, religious subjects, many portraits and genre pieces in a post-romantic style. His approach was very detailed and smooth, using dark tones.
