Listening to a live performance of The Brendan Voyage Suite, Irish composer Shaun Davey's major orchestral suite depicting Tim Severin’s adventure in reconstructing Saint Brendan’s 6th century Atlantic crossing to America in a small currach-like leather-clad boat, I was inspired to work with the colors that came to mind listening to the music - the dark navy blue of the Atlantic Ocean, the greens and heather purple of the Faroes, the mountains of Iceland, perhaps even some northern lights. This image was digitally created and rendered in the style of a watercolor painting, from a range of textures and a photograph of the Atlantic Ocean with a little sailboat on the horizon, which is also hidden in the image, tiny in scale, just like the boat of St. Brendan and 16 monks out on the ocean, sailing into the unknown in search of the Garden of Eden.
