This picture shows the transience of the fruit of the lantern plant in three steps.
After flowering, the calyx surrounding the fruit is still orange, but as time passes, the colour and structure of the calyx change.
The colour changes from deep orange to red until the calyx is completely transparent and the orange fruit is clearly visible.
The special thing about this whole process is that the initial colour of the calyx comes back to the fruit at the end, which has been hidden from view by the calyx.
I was so fascinated by this that I went looking for the three stages in which the transience can be beautifully seen but also the new beginning in the form of the orange fruit.
By using directional light, the orange fruit is beautifully visible.
I was born on Goeree Overflakkee and there are beautiful nature reserves to photograph such as the Kwade Hoek and the Slikken van Flakkee. I love to travel and try to capture both the culture and nature of distant countries photographically.
