The Engbertsdijksvenen is a protected nature reserve in Overijssel. A remnant of what must once have been a huge raised bog before the peat was reclaimed for peat and agriculture. This is where the peat used to be cut. On tipping carts, it was transported on rails and taken to drying places before being sold as fuel. It is relatively barren with beautiful views, wonderful for a nice walk. Heaths and large puddles alternate, every now and then you will encounter a hiker but generally there is a serene calm in this beautiful area.
