About ‘Elephant’s Trunk Nebula – Cosmic Sculpture’ by Christiaan Berger

IC 1396 is an extensive emission nebula in the constellation Cepheus. At its heart lies the iconic Elephant'''s Trunk Nebula – a dark, winding pillar of cosmic dust and gas that owes its name to its resemblance to an elephant's trunk.

This image was taken in the SHO palette, combining narrowband images in SII, H-alpha and OIII. This reveals the complex structures of ionised sulphur, hydrogen and oxygen in contrasting shades of gold, green and blue. The dense dust clouds and fine filaments show an area where new stars are forming, hidden deep within the nebula.

The photograph was taken entirely by myself with my own telescope and camera, built up from several hours of exposure time. The result is an image in which science and art come together — a moment of tranquillity in an ever-changing universe. An impressive and detailed work of art that adds depth, mystery and cosmic beauty to any space.

I am a passionate amateur astrophotographer and focus on capturing deep-sky objects from my own back garden. With my own telescope, camera and tracking equipment, I work on detailed images of nebulae, star clusters and other objects in the night sky.

My specialisation lies mainly in narrowband photography, using specific filters such as H-alpha, OIII and SII to accurately capture structures and emission regions. I also take RGB images for a true-to-life colour…

At Art Heroes we do not mass produce or keep stock, but make to order. Your artwork is made with passion by experienced craftsmen and is on average ready for shipment in 7 business days. Details on the exact delivery date will be sent after placement of the order. Depending on the shipping country the following delivery times apply:

How will the package be sent?

We work with several carriers, mainly UPS and DHL (Depending on the country where it is delivered, this may vary). Couriers can also be used for large or fragile packages.

Canvas are securely packed in plastic bubble wrap and cardboard. Wallpaper and posters are sent in sturdy tubes.

A courier collects the package from us and takes the package to a depot where it usually stays overnight. The day after it is collected and delivered to your home or office. We work with courier services that specialise in handling fragile parcels.

Not at home? Then the delivery driver will leave a note and an appointment can be made to schedule a new delivery.

Unfortunately, there remains a chance that something can happen during a shipment. In the unlikely event that your parcel has been damaged during transit, please take a picture of the entire item, the damage, the entire package and a picture of the shipping label. Send these photos to us by email and we will solve the problem without delay.
