Elephant Walk with 9 F-4E Phantom II aircraft.
The Elephant Walk is a term that came into existence with the US Army during World War II. The sight of a huge number of aircraft taxiing one after another across the runway, taking off and flying away was reminiscent of elephants walking in formation. An Elephant Walk is used to show capacity and striking power and optimise the cooperation of a squadron.
The McDonnell F-4 Phantom II is an American-made jet fighter made by McDonnell Aircraft, later McDonnell Douglas.
This fighter was one of the best jet fighters during the Cold War. Among other things, the plane was nicknamed Mig killer because it shot down quite a few Mig fighters during the Vietnam War.
This picture was taken on 17 November 2024 at Eskişehir Air Base (Eskişehir Hava Üssü) during a special event organised to mark the 50th anniversary of the F-4's service with the Turkish Air Force.
