Elegant white smoke envelops the red flower

by Marjolijn van den Berg

When taking this macro photo, I opted for a fairly shallow depth of field. This means that parts of the red flower are in focus, and the further away you look from these parts, the blurrier the image becomes. This creates a sense of calm in the photo (it emphasises certain parts) and also gives a sense of depth. You can see this clearly when you zoom in on the photograph.
The background has a beautiful petrol colour, which contrasts nicely with the red flower and the white smoke.
With this photograph, I wanted to create something colourful, but natural, that would give a unique image, basically just a beautiful, striking eye-catcher!
It was (and still is) quite a quest to get the smoke to do what I had in mind in the photo. Whether it's flowing smoke like this or a small, thin, fleeting veil.
This photo would look beautiful as wall decoration in various interior styles. The colours will brighten up many spaces!
