About ‘El Goli / Shah Goli’ by Maarten Verhees

El Goli, also known as Shah Goli, is a large historical park in the south-eastern region of Tabriz. One of its main features is its large artificial lake of 210 square metres.

Tradition dates the park's construction to the late 18th century. However, it may have been built earlier; some sources suggest as early as the 14th century. During the Qajar period, the park was restored and tall terraces were added.

The north side of the lake was cultivated, making it "seem to float over the valley" according to Penelope Hobhouse. An elevated road leads to a pavilion, now the location of a restaurant. The pavilion was once topped by a dome. From the western hill, a spring feeds the lake, a waterfall descending into five terraces. The view is flanked by poplars and willows.

The park was first called Shah Goli (Shah Gölü), the "Royal Lake" or the "Royal Pond". After the 1979 Islamic revolution, the park and its surroundings were renamed El Gölü, "lake of the people".

At Art Heroes we do not mass produce or keep stock, but make to order. Your artwork is made with passion by experienced craftsmen and is on average ready for shipment in 7 business days. Details on the exact delivery date will be sent after placement of the order. Depending on the shipping country the following delivery times apply:

Is your order a gift for someone? We can create you a gift voucher that displays the artwork(s) you ordered, so you have something to give while the artwork is being printed. Just send us an e-mail and we’ll take care of it.

How will the package be sent?

We work with several carriers, mainly UPS and DHL (Depending on the country where it is delivered, this may vary). Couriers can also be used for large or fragile packages.

Canvas are securely packed in plastic bubble wrap and cardboard. Wallpaper and posters are sent in sturdy tubes.

A courier collects the package from us and takes the package to a depot where it usually stays overnight. The day after it is collected and delivered to your home or office. We work with courier services that specialise in handling fragile parcels.

Not at home? Then the delivery driver will leave a note and an appointment can be made to schedule a new delivery.

Unfortunately, there remains a chance that something can happen during a shipment. In the unlikely event that your parcel has been damaged during transit, please take a picture of the entire item, the damage, the entire package and a picture of the shipping label. Send these photos to us by email and we will solve the problem without delay.
