With a similar upper-class upbringing and a common interest in art - especially a shared passion for music - Frédéric Bazille and Edmond Maître became fast friends after meeting in Paris in 1865.
Jean Frédéric Bazille was a French impressionist painter. Bazille initially studied medicine, reason for which he moved to Paris in 1862. In the same year, he began to paint. He worked in the studio of the Swiss painter Charles Gleyre.
