'EARLY BIRD' is a mixed media acrylic painting in retro style incorporating vintage elements.
It is about a girl standing on the beach at the edge of the sea. Her arms high in the air as if she is about to take off and mingle among the birds. She stands with her back to the viewer, looking out over a clear blue summer sky full of seagulls in flight. The painting is about freedom, movement and the desire to break free.
The rough texture and layering of the work - typical of mixed media - give the surface depth and character. The combination of acrylic paint with collage-like details evokes a sense of nostalgia, enhanced by the weathered, vintage look of sky and sea. Yet the image is modern in its simplicity and immediacy.
The girl in the painting becomes an “early bird” herself: she gets up early, seeks the peace of the sea and moves naturally among the birds. The title is a playful wink: she is also a bird - literally and figuratively.
