The National Park Dwingelderveld is a large nature reserve in the province of Drenthe, located in the triangle Dwingeloo, Ruinen and Beilen. It is also the largest wet heathland area in Western Europe. The Dwingelderveld has been shaped by differences in height: wet gullies and dry sandy ridges alternate. Many of the extensive lowlands have a somewhat marshy character. The Dewingeloose heath has over 40 fens. The fen in the photo is the Holtveen.
