About ‘Dutch tulips’ by Martijn van Steenbergen

Tulip (Tulipa) is a genus of single-seeded plants in the Lily family (Liliaceae). Tulips were introduced to the western world by the Viennese ambassador to Turkey, Ogier Gisleen van Busbeke, who wrote about the flowers he had seen in Edirne, Turkey, in 1551. He later sent some of its seeds to Austria.[1] The arrival of a cargo of tulip bulbs in Antwerp in 1562 marked the beginning of European tulip cultivation.[1] The first documented specimens were planted by the Fleming Carolus Clusius in the Hortus botanicus Leiden, which he ran from 1593. The forest tulip (Tulipa sylvestris) is the only species found in the wild in the Netherlands and became established from the 19th century. Most of the cultivated forms of the tulip are derived from Tulipa gesneriana. Ottoman sultans wore a tulip on their turban as a symbol. The name tulip thus comes from the Persian word "target band" (دولبند) meaning turban.

What are the delivery times?

At Art Heroes we do not mass produce or keep stock, but make to order. Your artwork is made with passion by experienced craftsmen and is on average ready for shipment in 7 business days. Details on the exact delivery date will be sent after placement of the order. Depending on the shipping country the following delivery times apply:

Is your order a gift for someone? We can create you a gift voucher that displays the artwork(s) you ordered, so you have something to give while the artwork is being printed. Just send us an e-mail and we’ll take care of it.

How will the package be sent?

We work with several carriers, mainly UPS and DHL (Depending on the country where it is delivered, this may vary). Couriers can also be used for large or fragile packages.

Canvas are securely packed in plastic bubble wrap and cardboard. Wallpaper and posters are sent in sturdy tubes.

A courier collects the package from us and takes the package to a depot where it usually stays overnight. The day after it is collected and delivered to your home or office. We work with courier services that specialise in handling fragile parcels.

Not at home? Then the delivery driver will leave a note and an appointment can be made to schedule a new delivery.

Unfortunately, there remains a chance that something can happen during a shipment. In the unlikely event that your parcel has been damaged during transit, please take a picture of the entire item, the damage, the entire package and a picture of the shipping label. Send these photos to us by email and we will solve the problem without delay.
