The Haringvliet is a former estuary of the North Sea, in South Holland between Voorne-Putten and the Hoeksche Waard in the north, and Goeree-Overflakkee in the south. In 1970, as part of the Delta Works, the Haringvliet was closed off from the sea by the Haringvliet dam and the Goereese lock was constructed at the dam for shipping. The Haringvliet bridge runs from the Hoeksche Waard to the Hellegatsplein. In the Haringvliet lies the island of Tiengemeten. The Spui flows between the Hoeksche Waard and Voorne-Putten.
