About the artwork
At the edge of the field, I remained standing, surrounded by a sea of colour. In front of me, rows of hyacinths stretched out, billowing in the wind like a carpet of purple-blue hues. The sun shone over the flowers, giving the whole thing an almost fairy-tale glow. It was a magical sight, but perhaps what touched me most was the smell.
The scent of hyacinths is like a warm embrace of spring. Sweet, intense and almost enchanting. For a moment I closed my eyes and let it sink in. This is Holland at its most beautiful. This is the work of our farmers, who maintain these fields with care and dedication. That's why I stay at the edge, because these flowers are their product - something to be cherished.
The picture shows a close-up of two stems full of flowers, with the field in the background that seems to run on almost endlessly. The deep purple and blue hues stand out against the soft light, creating a dreamy atmosphere. It is an image that evokes calm and admiration for me. A moment to reflect on how special it actually is that we live in a country where this kind of natural beauty is so accessible.
