The image motif shows a maritime landscape shot in the Baltic Sea resort of Warnemünde in Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania. This photographic image was taken in summer 2009 with the Nikon camera.
Where the Warnow flows into the Baltic Sea lies the seaside resort of Warnemünde. First mentioned in a document in 1195, the former fishing village has belonged to the Hanseatic city of Rostock since 1323 and is one of its most beautiful districts and one of the traditional German seaside resorts on the Baltic coast. The seaside resort of Warnemünde boasts the widest, fine-sand beach on the German Baltic coast, a natural steep coast as well as a coastal forest and the Rostock Heath, which offer a healthy climate mix and thus the best opportunities for recreation and relaxation.
Warnemünde is considered the birthplace of the beach chair and invites you to stroll along its picturesque historic centre along the Alter Strom, which has developed into an attractive promenade right on the water.
Every year, the Warnemünde Week takes place here, with up to one million visitors finding their way to the Warnow.
Warnemünde's sights include the lighthouse next to the striking Teepott and the 500-metre-long pier, as well as the "Warnminner Ümgang" fountain, the fish market and Alexandrinenstraße. In addition, a stroll along the beach promenade or a sightseeing tour of Warnemünde, Rostock and the surrounding area are of course worthwhile at any time of year.
Excursions in a westerly direction from Warnemünde via Dietrichshagen and the coastal forest of Stoltera to the Baltic resort of Nienhagen are also recommended.
Another major maritime event is the Hanse Sail, which takes place on the second weekend in August. Many large and traditional sailing ships, cruise liners and museum ships as well as ferries from various nations call at Warnemünde and Rostock's city harbour. Visitors have the opportunity to take a ride on the ships.
