The Douglas A-1 Skyraider was a support fighter for the U.S. Navy and could operate from both a flight deck and a runway on land.
The Douglas A-1 Skyraider prototype made its maiden flight in March 1945. The aircraft could carry a very large weapon load at external suspension points (hardpoints) under the fuselage and wings.
The aircraft pictured was delivered to the U.S. Navy in 1952 and was used during the war in Korea from the USS Philippine Sea (CV-47). In 1961, it was sold to the French Air Force and returned to the United States in 1977. Its current owner is the Vietnam War Flight Museum in Houston.
